The soprano Katja Beer studied opera, acting and dancing at the 'Hochschule für Musik und Theater' in Hamburg, as well as in New York with Prof. Kirchner, Prof. Elkus(Mannes School) and Richard Harrol(Julliard School).
In several masterclasses she had the opportunity to refine her Italian, Slavic and dramatic German repertoire with Margaret Harshaw(Chicago), Ilena Cotrubas, Galina Wishnevskaja and Harry Kupfer(Berlin). After her Diploma she worked as a concert- and operasinger in Europe and the U.S.. Her repertoire included parts such as Fiordiligi ('Cosi fan tutte'), Donna Anna ('Don Giovanni'), Marie ('The bartered bride'), Katja ('Katja Kabanova'), Agathe ('Freischütz') a.o..
Summer 1997 she gave her debut at the 'Komische Oper Berlin', where she worked in several productions since. With the world premiere of 'Kirisk' by Magret Wolf 2000, followed by a recording session with the radio television orchestra under Lior Shambadal in 2001 she proved her skills and devotion in the field of contemporary music.
She is constantly working with the clarinettist Giora Feidman. Two CD's have been released together: 'The Soul Chai' and 'Schubert & jiddishe Lieder'. With Feidman she also performed the Celebration of '50 Years Israel' at the Berlin Philharmonie.
Role debuts as Rosalinde ('Fledermaus') and Senta ('Flying Dutchman') took her to the Opera Houses of Dresden and Riga 2002/2003. Another one of her productions as Senta for the Wagner Society Minden was under the auspice of Wolfgang Wagner himself.
Since then she was heard in a Europe wide broadcast from Ljubljana/Slovenia with the 'Seven Early Songs' by Alban Berg. The 'Four Last Songs' by Richard Strauss and a CD production ('Crucifixus') of the contemporary composer L.A. Smith lead her to visit Wroclav/Poland. 2004 she débuted as Salome at the Classic Festival Hamm followed by Miss Jessel ('The Turn of the Screw'), both conducted by Frank Beermann.
She also performed another Senta at the Teatro Municipal di Santiago de Chile. Recently she sang the soprano part in Janacek's Missa Glagolica aswell as Szymanowski's Stabat Mater at the 'Berliner Philharmonie', followed by her successful debut as Tannhäuser Elisabeth again at the Classic Festival Hamm. 2006 a tournee with 9th symphonie of Beethoven brought her to the Berlin Philharmonie as well as to Korea.
Her stage debut in Görlitz in a new production as Salome march 2006 was a huge success. The production can also be seen till June 2007. May 2006 she debuted as Elsa in Lohengrin with Kent Nagano conducting the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester, Berlin.
The same year she debuted as Judith in Herzog Blaubart/ Bartok again with Frank Beermann conducting the NWD. Several concerts with Verdi-Arias (Aida, Nabucco, Trovatore) conducted by Myron Jussipowitch brought her to the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Stuttgart Liederhalle a.o.
She also debuted with the Italienisches Liederbuch in the Konzerthaus Wien winter 2006. The handball word-championship 2007, started with her singing the hymne in the internationally broadcasted opening show.
